Johor Bahru Old Town 1 Day Itinerary

How to go Johor Bahru from Singapore by bus (some of the information are extracted from Johor Bahru City Square website) –

Take Bus No. 170 from either Queen Street Bus Station, or bus-stop along Rochor Canal Road (just after Sim Lim Square), or Kranji MRT. The service runs from 5.20 a.m. to 12.10 a.m. everyday. From Kranji MRT, you can also take bus 160 or 950.

The bus will stop at the Singapore checkpoint. The bus will not wait for you whilst you clear immigration, so take all your belongings with you. Keep your bus ticket and hop on the next Bus No. 170 which comes along. You don’t have to pay again. You can also hop on to bus 160 or 950 even your first bus taken is bus 170. There is no extra charge by changing the bus as long as it is belong to Singapore bus company (SBS). Just keep your bus ticket. You can also do the same if you used EZLINK or Flashpay card to travel.

There are more options to travel to Johor Bahru by bus. Useful link – Singapore Bus Page.

The bus will stop again at the Malaysian checkpoint, which is at the other end of the Causeway linking Singapore and Malaysia. You will have to get off to clear immigration. Once more, the bus will not stop for you to clear immigration, so keep your bus ticket if you intend to catch the next bus.

After clearing the Malaysia immigration, you can walk into JB City Square Shopping mall through the bridge linked between JB City Square and CIQ building.

Start the journey –

Start the journey by exploring Jalan Tan Hiok Nee (Jalan = Road) or City Square. You can walk into JB City Square Shopping mall through the bridge linked between JB City Square and CIQ building. From City Square, it is an easy walk to Jalan Tan Hiok Nee. If you arrived Johor Bahru late in the morning, the shops at City Square should have already opened so you can also start the itinerary from City Square and end at Jalan Tan Hiok Nee.

To discover old shops around Johor Bahru old town is one of the highlights. To me, the old shops in Johor Bahru old town are more genuine than Melaka. To have coffee or meal at one of the old coffee shop and have your meal along the corridor is another highlight. The atmosphere is relaxing and still not over whelmed with tourists.
